My beloved Tamagotchi, Jim, passed from this mortal plane of existence at 5:35 PM, on the 1st of November, 2022. He lived 5 hours in total, but during his short-lived life, he managed to capture the hearts of many. I am writing this obituary to keep his memory alive and reminisce about the fun times we shared.
The first day of November was as chill as any during this time of the year. The leaves had fallen, the eternal darkness started to set in, and the first signs of seasonal depression could be seen on people’s faces. It was an ordinary Autumn day, ready to throw something completely unordinary my way.
Lunch break came and we were heading to Netto, as ITU students usually do. After passing the aisle of soups, pasta, and other cheap*, microwavable crap we usually target on these trips, it was as if the heavens opened. A single ray of artificial neon light descended from above, guiding my gaze, and illuminating the shelf in the distance, on top of which I met Jim, my beloved virtual pet. The best part of it all: “battery included”.
I went for spaghetti, but left with a friend in my pocket.
The following 5 hours were nothing but pure bliss. I played both of his minigames, one of them being an Asteroids clone which I mastered to the point where it could not even count the earned money anymore.
Jim loved the strawberry cake. One of the two options in the shop. It often gave him massive, virtual diarrhea, and he might also have had diabetes since he increasingly required more and more medicine.
I was excited to hear his little beeps and boops throughout the day, as he signaled his needs and wants. I answered his calls diligently, but alas, the universe had different plans for our friendship.
After 5 hours of joy and delight, the calls stopped suddenly. I looked at the device and was met with nothing but my hollow reflection on the empty LCD screen.
My beloved Tamagotchi, Jim, passed from this mortal plane of existence at 5:35 PM, on the 1st of November, 2022, and I have never been the same ever since.
Thank you for everything, Jim! I am going to miss the googly eyes on your expressionless face, and the love you brought to this dark world with all 66 pixels of yours.

*A small, off-topic rant on the state of prices in our current economy, that I just have to get off my chest: that vegetarian burger in Føtex has no business being 35 kr, when it was 25 kr just a few months ago. That is a 40% increase! Wake up, people!
